The Caribbean islands are a sailing paradise: a cruising area where distances between islands never exceed a day's journey and where the climate guarantees steady winds and safe sailing from November to May. It is a sailor's dream with hundreds of picturesque anchorages and moorings, welcoming marinas and safe access to harbours.
Airlines service most of the islands from the United States and Europe and numerous boat charter companies offer departures from almost everywhere.
The Caribbean islands stretch from Puerto Rico in the North to Venezuela in the South forming an arc of approximately 500 miles. They are so many independent states and American of European colonies.
Practically nothing remains of the aboriginal inhabitants of these islands who were replaced by slaves of African origin and European settlers. Languages spoken are English and French as well as corresponding pidgins. We have divided the Caribbean arc in four parts of approximately equal size without regard to the number of islands, nor their political or linguistic group.
