Approach: Very easy
Shelter: Excellent
Night approach: Yes - Overnight: Yes
Draft: No issue
Beware: Outlying Porpoise Rock
Waypoint: 11° 59, 39' N - 061° 46, 00' W
Anchorage: Good holding on mud
The approach is very easy, but beware of the Porpoise Rocks 0.5 miles to the south-east of the baie. The are not signalled and difficult to spot against the sun or rough seas.
Neither of the points around the bay are sound, so keep away from them. On the eastern point, there is a blue and red (private!) lighthouse, not lit at night.
From the waypoint, steer 060° to enter the anchorage. Don't get too near the east coast as there are shoals offlying 50 to 100 m. A shoal is also indicated 1.5 m. on the Shom chart about 1 cable in front of the marina, but we couldn't find it.
The depth decreases from 10-12 to 4-5 meters towards the beach. Anchor on mud with good holding.
Little red buoys 200 meters from the beach prohibit anchoring too near.
The channel to the left (west) is marked and leads to the Coast Guard's dock and the travel lift of the Spice Island Marina shipyard. the channel is 3 meters deep, bottom is soft mud.
Going ashore: at the marina or on the beach.
