This island's development only dates back to 1970. Mustique is a private island managed by the "Mustique Company" which maintains all of the island's infrastructure. One becomes shareholder of the company by building a villa on the island. The island's reputation with the international jet-set is due to business tycoons, stars of show business and royalties having a villa on Mustique.
Status
The island is part of the state of St Vincent and the Grenadines, independant since 27 October 1997 and member of the Commonwealth with Kingstown on St Vincent as capital.
