Approach: Difficult

Shelter: Bad - Alternative shelter: Clifton Harbour 3 M.

Night approach: No - Overnight anchorage: No

Draft: No issue

Beware: Do not take Punaise for Morpion, a new islet just west of Morpion!

Waypoints: 12° 32,7 N - 061° 24,06 W

Anchorage: Good holding on coral 2 to 4 meters.

Approach relatively tricky. Coming from the north it is easy to take Punaise for Morpion, both of which are not very visible from far off. There is a hut of coconut leaves on Morpion and Punaise is not as visible, but also has a hut! PSV is very visible and Morpion is near when coming from Union Island.

Since the winter of 2004-2005 a new islet has appeared just west of Morpion. That doesn't really change anything to navigation in the area, as it was very shallow anyway.

Once between Morpion and Punaise continue steering SE for one cable to approach Morpion steering north. Approaching the actual anchorage you should proceed very slowly with a crew member on the pulpit to spot the coral heads. Anchor to the south of the islet on coral bottom 3 meters deep of varying holding. Check on your swinging room.

Going ashore: On the beach. Be careful, even with the tender there are risks of touching the coral. It is advisable to use oars rather than outboard.
