Anchorage

In principle you have to moor on buoys in order to protect the marine reserve, but if all buoys are occupied or if the weather is bad, anchoring in front of the Hummingbird hotel is tolerated. Anchor in front of the beach on 30 to 50 feet of sand with good holding and then have a boat-boy attach a long warp to a palm tree (10 EC$ is usual). SMMA will still come and make you pay for anchoring in the marine reserve.

Ask for boat-boat Johnson (Tel 721 0229 ou VHF 16) honest and very efficient.

Leg 1 : 060° - 0,9 M
Leg 2 : 120° - 0,8 M

The SMMA have set up a number of mooring buoys in the bay. Beware of the most eastern ones of the northern group as the bay in shallow there.

Landing: on the beach or on the town quay. (5 EC$ per person negiciable). Don't leave your tender unattended. The mooring fees will be collected by the SMMA against receipt.

Clearance: The customs and immigration offices are on the waterfront. Open 08.00 to 12.00 and 13.00 to 16.30 weekdays.

SMMA is the Soufrière Marine Management Area. They manage the marine ressources of the area and the moorings for visiting yachtsmen. They are polite and efficient and will provide recent weather forcast on the mooring. Call them if you feel harassed by boat boys (VHF 16 or 8). See a chart of the mooring buoys on their site: www.smma.org.lc

Anchoring in front of the Hummingbird resort is no longer tolerated!
